Spiritual & Emotional Maturity Discussion

Jul 25, 2026    Bryan Sawchuk

Session 4: Spiritual & Emotional Maturity — Self-Inquiry & Empowering Questions

Facilitated by Rev. Bryan Sawchuk · Saturday, July 25, 2026 · 9:00–9:30 AM via Zoom

Let Us Begin — Grounding sequence: Settle In → Pause → Breathe → Allow → Realize.

What SEM Is — A state of conscious surrender, where the adverse ego (the drive to explain, feel safe, feel important, belong) yields to something greater than its own needs (working definition adapted from Cook-Greuter).

How You'd Know It — Spiritual maturity is measured by your level of non-reaction — not what you know, but how you actually behave under stress. Spiritually awake means you've gained new knowledge; spiritually mature means that knowledge has transformed how you show up when things don't go your way.

Why It Matters — One Presence, One Power, One Source — you are not separate from Source, you're made of it. Your inner state is a vibrational broadcast signal: every unregulated moment organizes what comes back to you.

The Invitation — Activation (irritation, contraction, feeling lesser-than) is never a sign something's wrong — it points to something within asking to evolve. The choice: evolve into possibility, or resign into familiar patterns.

The Core of Today: Self-Inquiry & Empowering Questions

Session 3 covered the biology (amygdala hijack vs. frontal lobe). Empowering questions are what deliberately engage the frontal lobe.

Premise: "Your life mirrors the quality of the questions you ask" (Niurka) — illustrated through her story of hitting bottom, then having one question ("If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?") open a new possibility.

Two kinds of questions: Disempowering (past-oriented, "what do you think/feel," keeps you in the story) vs. Empowering (present-oriented, "what am I noticing," "what is possible here," opens discovery).

Scriptural grounding: Matthew 21:22 and 7:7 — questions summon their vibrational match.

You ask from wholeness, not lack — an empowering question is remembering what's already true, not pleading from deficiency.

The Three-Step Formula for Crafting Empowering Questions

Begin with How, What, or Who (use Why only if it uplifts)

State it in the affirmative

Build momentum with words like "right now," "while," "even more"

Example — Money & Stress: "Why don't I have enough money?" → "What abundance is available to me right now?" → "How can I feel even more at peace with money, right now?"

One More Distinction — Be supremely specific in intention, but non-attached to outcome: see/hear/feel the essence of what you desire, do your part fully, then release the result to Higher Wisdom.

Refining It — Metaquestions — Test your crafted question:

Does it evoke the highest in me?

Does it inspire everyone involved?

How does it make me feel?

Keep refining until your whole body feels pulled toward it.

Practice — Pick one charged area of life → write down your current disempowering question exactly as it sounds in your head → rewrite it using the formula → let the new question land in your body.

Realize — Carry one empowering question with you this month. Let your life mirror it back to you. (Matthew 7:7)
